THIRSTY is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enjoyment and brewing of beer and other fermented beverages. Our membership stands at about twenty members, and includes both men and women whose ages range from 21 to 70. You don't need to be a brewer to be a member of THIRSTY. All you need is a love of good beer. If you do brew, however, you will be in good company. We have brewers that range in experience from extract beginners to advanced all-grainers. A few of us are Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) judges. THIRSTY owns a grain mill that is available for all club members to use. Membership is open to any person age 21 and older. Annual dues are $10.
Club Activities
Monthly
Formal
The meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month, usually at a member's house, where official club business is conducted and a presentation and/or tasting is given. Club members also sample and evaluate homebrewed and commercial beers, and swap recipes, information, and experiences.
Informal
Held the third Monday of the month, usually at a local pub, where we sample and evaluate commercial examples and discuss all things beer in a relaxed atmosphere. Occasionally, a brewery tour or field trip to a beer festival will take the place of one of the meetings.
Annual
Post Holiday Party
A holiday potluck held on a Saturday in January.
St. Pat’s Celebration
A potluck dinner held on a Saturday near St. Patrick’s Day. All dishes contain beer as an ingredient. There is a small prize to the best dish based on popular vote.
Big Brew
An AHA Celebration of National Homebrew Day, held the first Saturday in May. As a club we brew a batch of beer and have a picnic.
The THIRSTY Homebrew Classic
A homebrew competition held in November. Typically well over a hundred entries from across the country are received. The competition has been part of the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year award.
